DEVELOPER’S NOTE ⚠️

This is an unfinished project that was initially planned for a Critical Reflex collab (CRBroadcast). While the overall project didn’t move forward, we decided to release the game in the state it was at the time. The original idea involved exploring different found-footage style games, each with its own concept, all contributing to a broader narrative with potential connections between them. This was also our first attempt at aiming for a more realistic look and working with assets. Please note that the game may include some bugs, and certain aspects of the gameplay may feel a bit unusual (especially the jump), occasionally behaving in unexpected ways.

ABOUT 🐱

In Scratching Shadows, you play as a hungry cat wearing a small body camera, exploring an abandoned motel in search of food. As you wander around, you’ll also end up chasing a rat through the environment.

CONTROLS 🎮

  • SPACE – Jump (get close to objects until the glowing point appears)

The camera and jump mechanics are a little fiddly, and can be an issue for those who get motion sickness easily with all the tilting. Outside of those issues this was a great proof of concept. Sad to see it won't get expanded in future as I'd loved to have seen how you did the other found footage sections.

Really cool idea for a game. I can see how difficult it could be making it feel like a gopro while also making it not...nauseating after a while xD

for whatever reason it says I can't download it due to an incompatible 3rd party thing? if anyone knows why or how I can fix this please respond

Sometimes games won't allow you to download through the app, so if that happens, assume that you have to download it via the Itch.io website instead.

Game's really interesting overall. I like how you put the perspective on the cat. Just a shame that the game's going to be unfinished when you have something interesting here.

Just finished the demo. The gameplay especially the concept and perspective, feels super fresh and fun. As someone in indie game publishing, I'm really curious: why didn't things move forward with Critical Reflex? Feels like this project would totally be their vibe:D

If you're planning a Steam release and need help with marketing, drop your info here and let’s talk in DMs? No matter what, wish you all well.
